La propiedad se inauguró en 1883 y rápidamente se convirtió en un retiro popular entre la alta sociedad. Obtuvo su nombre en 1886 en honor a Lord Carrington, Gobernador de Nueva Gales del Sur. El refugio de montaña fue popular hasta la década de 1970. Al disminuir el turismo de montaña, en 1985 The Carrington cerró sus puertas y fue reabierto en 1998.
